What is Cold Water Therapy?
Cold water therapy, also known as cold therapy or cryotherapy, involves exposing the body to cold temperatures, typically through activities like cold showers, ice baths, or swimming in cold natural bodies of water.
It has various health benefits and is used for both therapeutic and wellness purposes. And over the last few years we have seen a huge increase in the number of people incorporating it into their daily routines – and for good reason!
What are the health benefits of Cold Water Therapy?
Whilst cold water therapy cannot 100% guarantee positive results the growing number of studies only attest to the overwhelming effectiveness of it - especially when combined with specific breathing techniques and the right mindset.
Some speak of ‘miracle cures’ while others have simply overcome their fear of the cold or improved their overall sense of wellbeing.
The growing number of health benefits include:
Improved Circulation: Exposure to cold water causes blood vessels to constrict and then dilate, which can improve overall blood circulation.
Reduced Muscle Soreness: Cold water therapy is often used by athletes to reduce muscle soreness and inflammation after intense physical activity.
Enhanced Recovery: It can help in the faster recovery of muscles and joints after exercise or injury.
Boosted Immune System: Regular cold exposure may stimulate the immune system, potentially increasing resistance to illness.
Mental Health Benefits: Cold water therapy can enhance mood, reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, and increase overall feelings of well-being.
Increased Energy and Alertness: The shock of cold water can increase heart rate and adrenaline, leading to heightened alertness and energy levels.

Workshop Preparation
For health and safety reasons, you will need to complete a health declaration form prior to attending.
We advise to eat light, if at all, before the workshop. This is purely because the breathing exercises may be uncomfortable on a full stomach.
If you have no prior experience with cold exposure, we recommend you finish your showers cold in the days leading up to the workshop. This may be hard at first, but just try to relax, focus on your breath, and bring it into a controlled, steady rhythm. Over time your body will adapt and it will become second nature – just like our ancestors would have had to before the invention of hot showers!
