What exactly is the Wim Hof Method?
The Wim Hof Method combines deep breathing, gradual cold exposure and mindfulness practice to help manage your mood and reset your physiology to its optimum state.
A Dutch man, called Wim Hof, developed the method as a way to cope with the trauma of his wife suddenly committing suicide after having four children together. He found that by submerging himself in ice cold water after preparing himself using specific breathing techniques, he was able to find peace and eventually heal from his emotional wounds.
At the time he didn’t know exactly why it had such a profound effect on his physical and mental wellbeing but has spent the past few decades taking part in a huge array of scientific studies to prove how powerful the method is and further understand what happens to our minds and bodies when practicing it.
Wim has subsequently achieved 26 world records for extreme cold exposure and helped cure thousands of people from a whole host of common diseases ranging from mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression to auto-immune diseases such as Crohn’s disease and Rheumatoid arthritis.
The best thing of all, it requires nothing more than your breath and a shower to get started.
What are the health benefits of the Wim Hof Method?
Whilst the Wim Hof Method cannot 100% guarantee positive results the growing number of testimonials only attest to the overwhelming effectiveness of the method.
Some speak of ‘miracle cures’ while others have simply overcome their fear of the cold or improved their overall sense of wellbeing.
The growing number of health benefits include:
Alleviate symptoms of depression, fatigue, and chronic pain
Reduce stress and anxiety
Boost your immune system
Reduce inflammation and improve circulation
Decrease insomnia and improve sleep quality
Break bad habits such as drug addiction and dependency
Increase recovery times from injury and muscle soreness
Increase tolerance to pain and cold (pain threshold)
Improve athletic and sporting performance

About your instructor
Mat’s a highly experienced Certified Wim Hof Method Instructor and Personal Trainer in Hove who’s personally spent time alongside Wim testing his limits in the cold and learning from the Master himself.
Mat has been practicing the method since 2017 and teaching across Sussex since 2020. Now, he's on a mission to empower people to better manage their health using these simple, proven, natural methods.
After experiencing severe burnout as a result of chronic stress back in 2017, Mat used the Wim Hof Method as a tool to help him recover and still uses it today to optimise his body and mind.
He believes all health starts with the mind. And when you have a clear and content mind, you make better decisions and are more likely to achieve your health and fitness goals, whatever they may be.
Who is the workshop suitable for?
This workshop is suitable for everyone but does require a basic level of health. Out of precaution, we advise against participation during pregnancy or if you are epileptic. People with cardiovascular issues or any other serious health conditions should always consult a medical professional before starting the Wim Hof Method. You will be asked to fill in a health declaration form prior to participating in the workshop.
Regretfully, at this time, we are only able to allow participants who are 18 or over to attend a workshop. This is in line with the Official Wim Hof Method Health & Safety Guidelines and is not a policy of Wise & Prime (but one we still have to enforce).

Preparation
For health and safety reasons, we will need all participants to complete a health declaration form prior to attending.
We advise to eat light, before the workshop. This is purely because the breathing exercises may be uncomfortable on a full stomach.
If it’s a full-day workshop, we recommend participants finish their showers cold in the days leading up to the workshop – building up slowly from 15s up to 2 minutes if possible. This will make the ice bath experience that bit easier.
